Chinese medicine looks at not only the disease symptoms, but also considers your age, habits, physical condition and emotional issues to form an overall picture and make a diagnosis. Many patients who come with a specific complaint report a general improvement of their health and their sense of well being with their treatments.
Treatment for the individual
When I see you for your initial consultation, I will ask about your complaint and your medical history. I will take your pulse to help understand more about your energy and vitality. Each person is unique; two people with the same western diagnosis may well receive different acupuncture treatments.
A principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when there is an obstruction or misalignment to the flow of the body’s qi, or vital energy. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infections or injuries are some of the most common. Through the use of specific acupuncture points, I will seek to re-establish the free flow of qi to restore balance and encourage your body’s natural healing response.
